Sand Dough Workshop @ 20-21 Visual Arts Centre

Join Mandy Keating for this fun family workshop. Learn how to make your own sand dough and create a handprint or other sculpture to take away and keep. Bake it in the oven at home or leave to dry naturally and you will have a permanent memento of the sun, sea and beach in your home! Book on in advance to drop-in between during either of the time slots, allowing up to an hour to do the activity. Suitable for families.

Note for parents/carers of younger children: This is a family workshop and we positively encourage parents/carers to participate and support their children. However, if you want to make your own piece alongside your child you will need to book the appropriate number of places, as this ensures that the artist brings enough supplies with them.

Your little mouse character will be personalised to tell your own story, with an array of details and props, created using model-making skills combined with stitching and textile techniques. All materials are provided, though participants may wish to bring their own fabrics and other mouse-related treasures to add a very personal touch to their work! Suitable for age 8+ and for adults (adults do not have to be accompanied by a child!).

Exhibition: TRUE TO SIZE - Heather Phillipson @ 20-21 Visual Arts Centre

True to Size is a bold, colourful journey through seven sculptural vignettes that combine online culture with ideas of fantasy, emotion and care.

The exhibition features mass produced materials, such as large printed emojis and teddy bears with sound and video animation in a series of fantastical and furry sculptural narratives. In one scene, a bear wearing a pink ball gown climbs a set of cardboard steps, and then emerges triumphant from emoji flames. In another, a bear has cut itself in half with giant emoji scissors.

True to Size by Heather Phillipson was commissioned in 2015 by the Arts Council to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Arts Council Collection. As only the second time that this unique touring exhibition has been displayed in its entirety, this really is a rare opportunity to view this work in full.
